The service Grammarly – an AI-powered writing assistant for English – is now available through WAYF via eduGAIN. The system checks spelling, grammar, and tone, and can also flag potential cases of plagiarism. In addition, Grammarly can suggest improvements to style and tone, and generate text based on user prompts using its generative AI features.
North Atlantic and Danish research and education institutions that are members of WAYF and have a Grammarly subscription can now allow students and staff to access Grammarly using their usual institutional login – without each institution having to perform its own risk assessment or set up any technical integration. Thanks to WAYF, institutions with a Grammarly subscription also avoid the need to maintain a separate connection to Grammarly – while users still enjoy single sign-on (“SSO”) in the browser across all web services accessed through the institution’s login system.
This streamlined access to Grammarly has been made possible through the international login federation eduGAIN, which allows users at WAYF member institutions to access Grammarly via our U.S. sister federation, InCommon.
Iceland’s University of Akureyri is the first institution to take advantage of this effortless SSO access to Grammarly. Institutions wishing to make use of the option simply need to contact their representative at Grammarly to request it. The WAYF Secretariat is happy to assist if anything causes trouble.
