Scandinavian University Press has joined WAYF

Scandinavian University Press (SCUP) has just registered its digital publishing platform for academic journals and books as a service in WAYF. And so, institutions participating in WAYF now have the ability to provide their staff and students with SCUP license access directly using their usual institutional logins, without needing an intermediary like EZproxy or similar.

The first institution to take advantage of this opportunity is the University College of Northern Denmark, UCN – which, like many other institutions, is currently setting up direct single sign-on through WAYF/eduGAIN to the publisher resources they are licensed for. This enables institutions to save the costs associated with operating an EZproxy, the long-standing link between institutional login and publishers, which grants access based on IP address. In the past, that was often the only access technology available from publishers; but today, nearly all publishers are part of an eduGAIN federation like WAYF, making IP proxies no longer necessary.

Institutions that wish to access their licenses with SCUP (or other publishers) via WAYF/eduGAIN simply need to contact their representative at SCUP and communicate their interest. They are also very welcome to reach out to the WAYF Secretariat for assistance with the process – which could lead to being able to do away with an EZproxy.
