WAYF part of dewa's digital wallet pilot

dewaThe startup dewa has quickly become a success with its implementation of the eIDAS2 regulation’s EUDI Wallet – a “digital wallet” designed to help EU citizens securely store and manage their digital identities and personal documents. For example, dewa recently entered into a strategic partnership with e-Boks to develop and use dewa’s ID wallet.

Dewa’s first pilot project involves digital student ID cards for students at a Danish university – initially used as a supplement to the physical student card, offering discounts at cafés, bookstores, etc. Later, however, the wallet will also be usable for exam registration and other study-related services, and even for digital diplomas – which can be verified across the EU.

WAYF (listed as DeiC among their partners) has played a role for dewa during the pilot phase. We included their app as a service in the federation, thereby giving them access to user information from the pilot university. And so, WAYF has gained its first experience as a building block in a digital wallet ecosystem – specifically as a technical component in what is known in the digital wallet world as the issuer function. Feedback from this process also contributed to us giving WAYF’s OIDC support an extra boost.
